Whitney Collins

Whitney Collins first came to understand the importance of making things by hand and paying attention to details growing up in an old colonial home in New England.

In college, Whitney worked costruction jobs in New Orleans' historic Garden District while earning his bachelor's degree at Tulane University's College of Arts and Sciences. Post-graduation he remained in New Orleans to hone his carpentry and renovation skills, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience working on dozens of projects spanning the rich architectural heritage for which New Orleans has long been famous.

Thereafter, Whitney returned to his New England roots, working for three years as a journeyman carpenter back in Boston, where he gained more exposure and insight into the nuances of historic preservation -- and got his first taste of new home construction.

In 1989 Whitney followed a call to the west coast and relocated to San Francisco, where he was moved to start his own firm in 1994. Initially focused on additions and small renovation projects, Whitney concentrated on establisng relationships with architects and recruiting a dependable stable of sub-contractors, many of whom remain part of his valuable team today.

In time, Whitney Collins Builder, Inc. grew to specialize in whole home remodels and renovations, becoming known for providing the services of a large construction management firm with the attention and accessibility of a small company.

Whitney Collins Builders, Inc. is focused today on properties in San Francisco's East Bay, with a portfolio spanning Berkeley to Oakland to Orinda and the firm comprises a proven team of expert craftsmen well-versed in construction styles ranging from modern to classic. Using only methods and materials of lasting quality and proven reliability, Whitney and his team implement award-winning modern designs and execute historically accurate renovations to the most exacting standards.

When he's not overseeing the creation of beautiful living spaces, Whitney enjoys live music, whitewater rafting, cooking and traveling the world with his wife and two daughters.
